Aspens Restaurant and Lounge Reviews

Manager was so helpful with drink choices. I told her what I liked and she made me an amazing drink! So polite. Atmosphere was amazing. All staff willing to help. We will be back very soon!

I happened to I take my husband to Aspen's restaurant for a birthday lunch on Monday because we passed it and it looked like a place we would enjoy. The Bang Bang Shrimp was the best I've ever had because it highlighted the shrimp and not the sauce! We shared the wedge salad and fish and chips. The dressing for the wedge was so tasty and the crispy fish kept me wanting more! Shane, the bartender was attentive and friendly who made sure we had what we needed. Stephanie, the manager, and her husband Shane were so welcoming and informative about their place. Children are welcome with a game corner and play toys for the table. They also have live music to enjoy. My husband and I highly recommend this place for the staff, atmosphere, and food! Please give it a try because you won't be disappointed.

Such a great vibe!! Second time coming here! Food is so good! Travis was a great server! And thank you so much Shane for the hats! Everyone was SO nice here!! Must go if you’re in the area, if not make the drive!!!

First visit to Aspen's. We were the only ones there on a Sunday around noon. The atmosphere is awesome. Super beautiful old church building, turned into a ski lodge vibe. All the food we ordered was incredible! Started off with a Wedge Salad, Ceaser Salad and Calamari. For our entrees we got the Lobster Truffle Mac and Cheese, and the Cajun Pasta. Freaking delicious! I also had a spicy Bloody Mary from the bar that was excellent. Our service was top notch. Very, very happy and we'll be returning again. It is a little pricey, so be aware, but incredibly worth the money.

The entire expierence was amazing. The ambiance is relaxing, yet sophisticated. The service was top notch. The spinach and artichoke dip, and the bang bang shrimp was out of this world!!! Very convienent location, and parking is easy!

Such a fun atmosphere! Cozy velvet seating and gold accents. Menu is limited but varied. Strawberry peach salad was delicious. Lobster avocado toast was loaded! Bang bang shrimp super crispy and delicious Thai- like sauce. Great place for lunch.

Staff was very kind here. I never was able to go to Dior so I’m unsure on some comparisons here. The lighting is good and furniture and decor is nice. The menu is a bit light but there are a variety of items such as burgers, sandwiches, pasta, steak, etc. Items are slightly on the pricier side. The bar was out of blackberry puree which eliminated 2 of their signature cocktails, one of which I wanted. The secondary cocktail was very good. The calamari is very unique which was served with artichoke hearts, thinly sliced carrots, and peppers tossed and fried in same breading. It was unique and very tasty. I uploaded photo of lobster avocado club. It’s very fresh and slightly citrus sweet due to sauce. The fries were actually crisp and not limp. I really liked this place and plan to come back.

Drawing from experience: the appeal of local food and cozy edges
As a Kansas City local, I remember visiting with friends for their “Tuesday Burger & Pitchers” special—a perfect mid‑week treat. Over nachos and signature cocktails under soft lounge lighting, the mix of mobile food events, cozy layout, and upbeat music created a memorable, relaxed dining spot.
Challenges faced and evolving identity: closure and future transformation
Despite its charm, Aspens Restaurant and Lounge closed “until further notice” more than a year ago. The decision followed financial concerns compounded by a widely publicized incident involving Jackson Mahomes in February 2023 . Owner Aspen Vaughn also cited judgment from patrons due to controversy around that incident . Community sentiment grew unclear, even amid strong competition and mixed online reviews (Tripadvisor rating: 3 / 5 based on 155 reviews) .
Transition to new beginnings: Conroy’s Public House takes the stage
In October 2024, Kansas City Magazine announced that Ray Dunlea—owner of Conroy’s Public House—planned to re-open the 6,780‑sq‑ft space as an Irish‑themed pub with lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch . Conroy’s menu promises traditional fare—fish and chips, Reubens, cottage pie—plus modern pub staples like wings, burgers, and fish tacos. This evolution shows how the space continues to serve the community, honoring its roots as a local gathering spot .

Just came here for the first time, they have some greats unique dishes, some very unique decor. It has its own special vibe, you could call it blue. They have done a great job creating a different sort of space that anything else you can find in the area, and a great assortment of more high end menu items than most of the places around here. Definitely come give it a shot! They have been open for less than a year and would love to see more new faces!
